DIY – How To Fix A Toilet That Keeps Running
Is your toilet continuing to run minutes after you have last flushed? If so you can be wasting gallons of precious water and ultimately increase your water bill. Take a few minutes to figure out why you have a running or “crying” toilet – and then you can repair it. You have a run-on toilet if each flush doesn’t end with a gurgle but instead continues with a hissing sound, with water running into the toilet bowl.
To find the source of the trouble, remove the toilet tank top and place it in a safe location. Then push the flush lever and watch what happens. Don’t worry about the water in the toilet tank — it’s clean.
Running toilets are usually caused by a problem with the fill valve, flush valve, flapper, or flush handle.
Once you’ve identified one of the above causes you can start on the repairs. If the cause is not easily identifiable or the problem persists please contact us and we can help get the fix dialed in correctly.
